Ciril has breathed new life into Diest through Ezeldijk, a new city district totally tailored to the City of Orange. The project consists of various constructions including about 300 apartments and lofts, around 20 houses and a residential care centre counting 47 homes for assisted living. As such, Ciril has transformed the project site into a high quality and vibrant residential area with a healthy mix of residents.
Ezeldijk is the repurposing of what was once Euro Shoe’s terrain, at the edge of the Diest city centre, located in between the beguinage and the provincial domain Halve Maan. The city expansion is not an island in the centre, but rather it has been carefully slotted into its surroundings. As such, the beguinage’s intimate atmosphere can be breathed again inside little streets and alleys, and the river Demer – which flows directly through the project site – has been re-exposed so that locals can enjoy overlooking its water once more. Furthermore, the new park with its pond has grown out to be a real meeting place for Diest’s local residents.
The project took 15 years to complete and was fully sold and delivered in the spring of 2023.
