Aarschot on track

The urban renewal project Aarschot on track (“Aarschot op sporen”) has transformed the Aarschot station district, seamlessly connecting the city centre, the Nieuwland business zone and the Elzenhof park districts to each other. Thanks to this PPP-project, the neighbourhood – together with the Kapitein Gilson square – has become the multimodal city gate to Aarschot.

Ciril reinvented the Kapitein Gilson square, one of the main access routes towards Aarschot’s centre, by adding a contemporary eye catcher to it. The remarkable building consists of 44 apartments and 1,100 m² of commercial space, with the train station, key facilities and shops all within walking distance. Currently two commercial spaces of approximately 400m² each are still available to buy.

The redevelopment of the Gilson Square and several nearby streets has signified a true metamorphosis for the station area. Ciril transformed what used to be the parking area into what it is today: a public area with attention for greenery, relaxation and recreation. The new Kapitein Gilson Square, together with the reconstruction of a number of adjacent streets and the arrival of a station boulevard with lots of greenery, are important stepping stones in the revival of the station neighbourhood.
