Ciril received the planning permit for its housing project Maarten in Mechelen: new apartments, homes, a city hotel and office & retail space will be built on the former AZ Sint Maarten hospital grounds. A new public park and a new residential street will make the project a reclaimed piece of Mechelen for everyone.
New park & new street
The new development will be a green place to walk, relax and live in. Maarten will boast 74 apartments and 21 houses in a completely new inner area, consisting of a pedestrian residential street and a new neighborhood park – amounting to 3,800m² of new public space for Mechelen. The houses will be built according to BEN standards and will have their own gardens as well as a 1000m² collective garden.
Mixed development
In consultation with the city of Mechelen, the newly developed site will also offer space for a city hotel and retail & office space: by combining living and working, Maarten ensures a lively neighborhood at any time of day. The various functions will find their place in new buildings by Polo Architects from Antwerp, designed to fit in with surrounding buildings and the new green outdoor space by OKRA Landscape Architects.
Accessible to all
Maarten is situated in the center of Mechelen, 500m from the historic city center. It is also alongside the calming waters of the canal, at a five-minute walk from the station, and nested within its own park: the perfect combination of tranquility and accessibility. An underground rotation parking, spacious bicycle sheds and connecting cycling and walking paths through the site make the project fully accessible to everyone.
