New Future for the Heilig Hart Church in Hoboken

The Heilig Hart Church on Krugerstraat in Hoboken is getting a new future. Ciril has reached an agreement with the Church Council for the church building and the associated grounds. In the coming months, a future plan for the site will be developed.

The church has been in poor condition for some time, and last year the site was put up for sale. Several conditions were attached to the sale, including the preservation of sufficient green space and the desire to repurpose the church into a valuable community project. Ciril’s intentions meet these conditions. However, the agreement depends on obtaining the necessary permits. Only once these have been granted will the official deed of sale be signed.

To enable the redevelopment, the church must eventually be withdrawn from religious service through a Bishop’s Decree, allowing a residential project to begin. At this moment, there are no detailed plans yet, but they will be presented in the coming months. Ciril will engage in discussions with the city administration, local residents, and the parish.

In the future, information sessions will also be organized to involve the community.
It has already been decided that the church building will be repurposed into a residential development, with as much of the existing structure being reused as possible. A communal space will be provided, accessible to both the neighborhood and the parish. Additionally, the green park, including the healthy trees, will be preserved.
