From 1 January 2020, the Flemish government will no longer accept new applications for the Housing bonus. For those still wanting to enjoy the benefit, this means they’ll have to be quick to make their purchase, because the deed must be signed by 31 December 2019 at the latest to be accepted.
What is the Housing bonus?
The Housing bonus is a tax benefit for people buying a home with a mortgage loan. The interest, installments and premiums are tax-deductible today – but will no longer be from January 1, 2020. The maximum tax benefit per person per year can amount to € 944. Over the entire term of the loan, this means couples could benefit from a € 30,000 advantage with the Housing bonus. Now or never
From 1 January 2020 onwards, no new housing bonuses will be awarded. In order to still enjoy the benefit, buyers must therefore become owners within the fiscal year 2019. For the government, however, it is the date of the deed of purchase executed at the notary that is taken into account. As there may be a few months between the purchase and the deed, buyers have to decide as quickly as possible and have a signed sales contract.
