Brussels, September 2025 – Flanders is investing in the future. The Aurora Scholen consortium – comprising investors EPICo and Rebel, and construction partners Democo and Van Roey – has given the green light for the construction of five modern schools in Duffel, Leopoldsburg, Waregem, Kruibeke and Knesselare.
With an investment of €60 million, 1,700 pupils will soon have access to inspiring learning environments. With permits and financing now secured, construction is set to start immediately. Within less than two years, the new school gates will open.
A strong boost for modern education
This wave of construction is part of the ambitious schools programme launched by the Flemish government in 2016, aimed at creating sustainable, future-proof learning environments. Aurora Scholen is delivering seven projects in total, of which this is the fourth cluster and the second commissioned by the GO! education network.
Smart building, sustainable maintenance
The schools are being developed through a DBFM model: one team designs, builds, finances and guarantees maintenance for 30 years. This ensures that schools benefit not only from state-of-the-art facilities but also from peace of mind: with maintenance taken care of, the focus can remain entirely on education.

“With these projects, we are creating school buildings that inspire – places where children love to learn, play and grow together, while remaining sustainable and open to the neighbourhood,” says the Aurora Scholen consortium.
