Democo Group wins VKW NextGen of the Year Award 2025

We’re proud to announce that Democo Group has been named laureate of the VKW NextGen of the Year Award 2025. A strong recognition of the way our third generation of family entrepreneurs has taken the lead – with ambition, vision and the drive to keep writing our story.

This award celebrates exceptionally successful generational transitions in family businesses. At Democo Group, it marks the handover from the second to the third generation: Thibaud Demot (CEO), Raf Houben (COO), Rob Houben, Kristof Houben, Sarah Houben and Inez Demot are now shaping the future of our group.

More than a transition: conscious choices and clear direction

What stood out to the jury? That our third generation didn’t just inherit leadership — they actively claimed it. Building on solid foundations, they introduced fresh energy, structure and complementarity. Today, two families — the Demots and the Houbens — lead our company together, with shared conviction.

According to jury chair Prof. Pieter Vandekerkhof, that approach shows maturity and courage:
"Tensions and differences weren’t swept under the rug, but addressed head-on. That takes trust. And that’s exactly what this generation demonstrates."

Strong generation, solid structure

What truly sets Democo Group apart, according to the jury, is how the family character remains strongly embedded in a professional governance model. With an active family council, a shared charter, committed shareholders and an independent board of directors, all the right elements are in place for sustainable growth with respect for our roots and focus on the future.

Continuity and renewal

“This award is a beautiful recognition of three generations of entrepreneurship,” says CEO Thibaud Demot. “We remain true to our values while renewing with fresh energy and ambition — together with all our colleagues who bring this to life every single day.”

The award was presented during the NextGen of the Year event on 20 November at the Provincial House of Limburg.
