With its 100,000 m2 of existing building patrimony, the old Beringen mining site is Flanders’ largest industrial heritage site. Key focus is placed on the tourist-recreational components, which Ciril has interwoven with urban functionalities like living, working and shopping. Rebranded as Be-MINE, the historical site was repurposed as a tourist-recreational project where living and relaxing are harmoniously entwined.
Be-MINE, that’s experiencing both the interior and exterior of the listed buildings within the historical mining site, including a swimming pool, Europe’s fist indoor snorkel and scuba diving centre and a retail park. Because of this, the former mining site has re-entered the social and economical fabric of the city.
The remainder of the 32 ha site has been destined for residential spaces, with urban villas, apartments, land-based housing and a residential care centre. To live on Be-MINE is to live within a historical heritage site, in a contemporary sample of best in class architecture equipped with a high-quality finish. Thanks to the lush green buffer that separates the residential area from the heritage site, Ciril can guarantee peace and privacy for its residents.
